Festive Celebrations of International Novruz Holiday at IUHD

On March 21-22, all Turkmen people and many nations worldwide unanimously celebrate one of the most important holidays of the year - Novruz Bayramy. It is considered one of the most ancient holidays in the world as it has three thousand years history. On February 23, 2010, at the initiative of Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, North Macedonia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey, the UN General Assembly recognized March 21 as the International Day of Novruz. With the advent of spring, nature comes to life, and the surroundings become more beautiful. When we say 'Novruz', we envision the renewal, the newest views. It is not reasonless for us to celebrate this holiday in spring, which brings renewal to the environment.

Novruz is celebrated by our Turkmen people with great solemnity, festivities are celebrated everywhere, and tables full of blessings are laid out. Our wise ancestors believed that it was on this day that nature awakens to a new life, a new agricultural year begins, seeds can be sown and trees can be planted. So, the main treat of the festive dastarkhan is a dish made from young wheat sprouts – semeni. Recipes for this delicacy are passed down from generation to generation.

Traditionally, semeni is cooked on the eve of Novruz. Young wheat sprouts are boiled from night to dawn. Soon, the thick, smooth brew takes on a dark brown hue in appearance and tastes like a jam. Surprisingly, young wheat is prepared without the addition of sugar, and acquires a sweetish taste during languishing on fire. Everyone goes to their close ones to celebrate and congratulate on Novruz bayram. Music and festivities are being held throughout the country to mark the occasion. One of such events dedicated to the National Spring Holiday, International Novruz Day, was organized by the International University for the Humanities and Development.

On March 17, 2023, with the co-organization of the International Economics and Management faculty and Information Technologies faculty students there was held Novruz Bayrami celebrations at our marvelous university. The festivities started with the Food festival exhibiting the national dishes and pastries of countries who celebrate this wonderful holiday. The festival went out at IUHD Canteen and surrounded with musical and national dance performances of students.

In the second part of the day, the ceremonies continued at the conference hall of our marvellous university with a festive concert. Poems, compositions, songs and dance performances of Novruz celebrating cultures made this concert unique and entertaining.

Taking this opportunity, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our National Leader Hero Arkadag and Esteemed President Arkadagly Serdar who does a lot of efforts for the welfare of our nation. We wish them sound health, long life, every success in their undertakings. May every day of our country be filled with festive celebrations.
